Can I Use Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic CC Without Storing Photos in the Cloud?

As a photographer, I'm always looking for ways to streamline my workflow and access my files from multiple devices. Recently, I've been considering upgrading to Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic CC 8.1, but I have one major concern: storing all of my photos in the cloud.

My current setup consists of an iMac desktop, MacBook Pro, and iPad Pro, making it essential for me to have a seamless sharing experience across devices. However, I'm hesitant about the new CC's approach to syncing files between devices, which requires uploading all of my photos to the cloud with an option to store a local copy.

My main concern is that my entire photo catalogue exceeds 1TB in size, and I'd rather not have it stored in the cloud for security and storage reasons. Adobe does offer a more affordable option through Apple's iCloud, but I'm interested in exploring Lightroom Classic CC as a viable alternative.

One of the key features that attracted me to Lightroom Classic CC is its ability to work offline, allowing me to edit photos without relying on an internet connection. This would be particularly useful when traveling or working in areas with limited connectivity.

While I appreciate the new CC's more Apple-like sharing capabilities, I'm not convinced about the need for cloud storage. Adobe does offer a compromise by allowing users to store 1TB of files in the cloud while still having access to their local files. However, this option requires an additional $5 monthly subscription fee, which seems steep considering the alternative options available.

For now, I'm sticking with Lightroom Classic CC 15, which provides me with all the features I need without requiring me to store my photos in the cloud. While I do appreciate some of the new features introduced in the latest CC version, such as HDR Merge and Create HDR panos, I'm not convinced that it offers enough benefits to warrant switching.

Ultimately, I believe Adobe will eventually reach a point where Lightroom Classic CC is no longer necessary, as the CC version will offer all the same features and more. Until then, I'll continue to use my trusty Classic 15, which provides me with everything I need to edit and manage my photos effectively.
